Ever since the 1902 novel by J. M. Barrie introduced the world to a little boy who wouldn’t grow up, Peter Pan remains one of the most iconic stories of all time. As a child, I fell in love with this beautiful tale, and often found myself flying through my own imaginary adventures in Neverland. This children’s book illustration was inspired by my favorite scene which depicts Peter’s first appearance into the tale. I clearly remember the anticipation I felt, wondering who this mysterious boy was lurking in the young girl’s window. Influenced by the tone set by the techniques of Thomas Blackshear’s and Vincent van Gogh’s painting “Starry Night,” I set out to create the feeling of mystery that captured my heart as a young girl and continues to stir the imagination of children everywhere.
